Devices from Apple, Microsoft and Google took low positions in the maintainability rating, in the top - Asus, Dell and Motorola

U.S. Organization PIRG (Public Interest Research Group, Public Interest Research Group) tested popular models of laptops and smartphones for maintainability. It turned out that gadgets from Apple in both cases occupy the lowest lines of the rating, and Motorola, Dell, Lenovo and ASUS are in the lead.

The report is based on data from iFixit and a repairability assessment from the French government. Not only was the ability to disassemble the device and replace failed components taken into account, but also the availability of spare parts and official instructions. They also paid attention to the fact that the company's management contributes to the promotion of the law on maintainability. There are two ratings in total: for smartphones and laptops.

In both lists, Apple gadgets occupied the lowest positions. It is noted that the Cupertinos lost the most points due to lobbying for the right to repair and actively fighting against the maintainability law. In addition to active actions, companies also paid attention to the device of the gadgets themselves, which are difficult to open, and official spare parts can be almost impossible to purchase at affordable prices. It is more profitable and faster for users to buy a new gadget than to waste time searching for components.

Lenovo laptops have the highest maintainability rates. The specialists emphasized that the company actively supports the user community and publishes official instructions for disassembling gadgets. Separately, they noted the opportunity to freely purchase components. Among smartphones Motorola Moto g10 and e7i Power are in the lead. Both gadgets received high marks from iFixit.

Devices from Microsoft and Google also ranked low. In their case, there is a difficulty in acquiring spare parts and components and an initially low level of maintainability. In January of this year, Microsoft published official instructions for disassembling the Surface SE laptop on its YouTube channel, but this did not help the company take a leading position: the rest of the IT giant's gadgets are practically beyond repair.
