Since March 10, Visa and Mastercard payment systems have stopped working in the Russian Federation. Their cards, issued by Russian banks, work within the country, but have become unavailable abroad.

Also inside, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay services stopped working for those users who linked Visa and Mastercard cards to them. Google Pay does not support Mir cards, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay partially support cards from banks that are not under sanctions.

“All payment cards of Russian banks continue to work normally,” the Central Bank of the Russian Federation said.

Since March 10, Russian banks have stopped issuing new Mastercard and Visa payment cards.

Visa and MasterCard cards issued by Russian banks continue to work in the Russian Federation as usual until their expiration date. Some banks, such as Alfa-Bank and Raiffeisenbank, have automatically extended their customers' valid Visa and MasterCard cards.

Transactions with Visa and MasterCard cards are processed within the country in the National Payment Card System. Holders of these cards in Russia can carry out transactions at ATMs, pay, make transfers from card. Cross-border transactions with VISA and MasterCard cards are not available. This applies both to paying for purchases in foreign online stores and using these cards abroad.

On March 5, 2022, Visa and MasterCard announced the suspension of all operations in Russia. After that, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation published a detailed FAQ on foreign exchange transactions and the operation of bank cards.
