New tracks by foreign artists are not available to users of Yandex.Music and VK Music services

According to RBC, users of the Yandex.Music and VK Music services cannot add some new tracks by foreign artists to playlists, including the latest releases released by Sony Music Group, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. These companies had previously announced that they had stopped operating in the country due to sanctions.

A representative of Yandex explained to the publication that access to some new tracks of some foreign copyright holders is still limited. Users have access to all catalogs with tracks, including foreign ones, uploaded to the service before the end of last week. The press service of Yandex.Music specified that the company, together with partners, is working to resolve this issue.

VK Music said that they also faced blocking of new compositions and part of the content of foreign labels, which closed access due to sanctions. The service explained that these are isolated cases, and they depend on the performer and the issuing company.

On March 13, the British rock band Pink Floyd and one of its leaders, David Gilmour, decided to remove their music from streaming services in Russia and Belarus.

On March 9, major record labels Sony Music Group and Warner Music Group announced the suspension of their activities in Russia, and Universal Music announced a temporary cessation of business and the closure of its offices in Russia. These three companies control over 70% of the music market in the world. WarnerMedia (Warner Bros., CNN, HBO Max), Paramount, Sony Pictures, Walt Disney Company and Universal Pictures also decided to suspend their activities in Russia.
