Kawasaki has created a rideable goat robot

Last week at the International Robot Show in Tokyo, the Japanese company Kawasaki introduced a competitor to Boston Dynamics' Spot robops: Bex the goat robot. The goat was a product of Kaleido, which has been developing bipedal robots since 2015. Apparently, the engineers sought to create a robot that could overcome difficult terrain. It is not surprising that the developers, when creating their robot, were inspired by the image of mountain goats that live in parts of Eurasia and Africa - ibexes. These animals run perfectly in the mountains, not falling even from steep slopes.

Bax has glowing horns and graceful legs on which he can run and avoid obstacles on his own. Though we don't know if it can actually handle steep slopes like its live counterparts. The robot can move independently or be controlled by a person - the principle of action is similar to controlling a saddled horse.

The goat robot is designed to transport people and various goods. Kawasaki has confirmed that a mechanical gantry can be used to conduct remote inspections in various industrial areas (now dominated by the Spot robodog). It is possible to configure it for the transport of goods weighing up to 100 kg. At the same time, the upper part of the robot ceases to look like a goat. The robot also has wheels that can be positioned by folding its legs and used to move quickly over smooth surfaces.

It is likely that in a couple of years, along with the robo-goat, the factories will also be able to see the robo-goat. I wonder if there will be a continuation of the "animal" trend?
