Magium Educational Interactive Floor Installed at Skolkovo International Gymnasium

The Innovations for Children company, a resident of the Skolkovo Foundation, has developed a specialized educational interactive floor called Magium. The other day it was installed in the international gymnasium "Skolkovo". It currently has about 150 students. About the details of the project - in the sequel.

What kind of project is this?

Magium is a technological educational complex for children based on interactive teaching methods. A box with software and sensors is attached to the ceiling and projects the image onto a special floor covering. Children can press the floor with their hands, feet, sports equipment (bodybars). Sensors built into the floor recognize the child's speech, geometric shapes, and musical instruments. The Kinect sensor is responsible for motion and speech recognition. It is he who allows for variability in use. This approach develops the cognitive and communication skills of the child, makes games more interesting.

The creators of Magium note that the interactive floor is also an effective tool for developing a child’s Soft skills, which helps to form a holistic picture of the world, as well as develop creativity, teamwork and critical thinking.

How is Magium used?

The floor software consists of a set of games or "islands" united by theme and educational purpose. For example, the Logikum Island contains games for developing logical thinking and counting skills, and the Cloud Island contains games for the youngest children. The floor kit includes 5 basic "islands". Additionally, you can purchase the islands of Rechezavrika (speech development), Tarzania (outdoor games), Amazonica (classics of intellectual games - checkers, chess, etc.), TRIZ (games within the framework of the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving).

Each "island" has its own mechanics of interaction. "Rechezavriki" and "TRIZ" have a built-in lesson constructor, with the help of which the teacher can upload his own pictures and sounds into the game mechanics. This makes it possible to conduct classes on any necessary topic. In addition, all Magium games are adapted for children with disabilities (autism and Down syndrome), allowing them to be involved in the educational process as much as possible.

“It was very important for us that there are developed methodological aids in the set for the Magium floor, because it is very convenient for teachers! We have implemented an interactive floor in the main educational program. The main teaching method in our gymnasium is research activity. We implement STEM technologies in education and divide children into subgroups in the classroom. One of them is engaged in robotics, and the other is on the interactive floor. Then they change, and if, doing robotics, the children sit at the tables, then, while working with the floor, they show motor activity and additionally consolidate their knowledge, ”- Sojida Basirova, Head of the Preschool Education Program at the Skolkovo Gymnasium.

Interactive floor Magium is available in two versions: stationary and mobile versions. In the stationary version, the box with the projector, sensor and software is attached to the ceiling and projects the image onto the floor. In the mobile version, all equipment is located inside a compact pedestal that can be moved. It can project the image of games both on the floor and on the wall. In addition to the Skolkovo gymnasium, teachers in 327 institutions across the country have already been able to test and implement this solution in their work: these are kindergartens, elementary schools, and children's development centers.

A little about the developer

Innovations for Children is a manufacturer of interactive equipment for educational institutions and kindergartens. The company solves the problem in the field of preschool development and education using interactive technologies based on augmented reality and digital vision. Interactive educational complexes of the Innovations for Children company, such as Interactive Sandbox, Interactive Climbing Wall, Interactive Floor, make it possible to multiply the effectiveness of classes by introducing the gamification factor into the process of development and education of the child. Technologies of interactive interaction with the child and didactic materialso used due to the system of sensors and stereo-RGB/RGBD data recognition algorithms.
