Mediascope: after blocking Instagram**, Russians began to spend three times less time on social networks

Analytical company Mediascope, at the request of RBC, conducted a study of the Russian audience of social networks after blocking the largest of them. It turned out that the number of users of Instagram** decreased by 16%, while Facebook** lost more than 40%. Also, Russians began to spend less time on Meta* platforms, but millions of people from Russia still use social networks.

The study took into account the number of Russians who visited social networking websites or mobile applications for at least a minute per day. As a result, Mediascope shared the following results:

after the blocking, Instagram** lost 16% of its audience - a day later, 34 million Russians out of the previous 39 million used the service. In addition, the time spent on the social network also decreased - from 33 minutes a day to 11 minutes;

Facebook** audience decreased from 10 million to 6 million;

Telegram messenger showed an increase in users. If in mid-February 2022, 31 million Russians used the service daily, by mid-March 2022 the figure had grown to 45.5 million;

VKontakte and Odnoklassniki also showed growth - from 46 million to 50 million and from 20 million to 21 million, respectively;

the TikTok audience remained virtually unchanged and remained at 33 million daily, but in early March the service experienced a sharp increase to 41 million people, by the middle of the month everything returned to its usual indicators;

Twitter lost almost half of its users, the audience fell from 2.5 million to 1.2 million;

Snapchat maintains its position and the outflow is almost not felt.
