Experts tell how scammers can use home routers

Fraudsters can gain access to personal data through home routers. This is stated in a joint project of RBC and HP.

According to the Ministry of Labor, in March 2021, about 3 million people switched to a remote or hybrid work format. Against this background, workers' home routers began to pose a threat to companies. Experts noted that users usually do not change passwords on routers and use standard ones.

“According to corporate data cybersecurity experts, up to 45% of home routers are infected or compromised,” the report said.

To prevent hacking, experts suggest providing employees working from home with pre-configured corporate equipment.

You should also train workers in the rules for setting up home routers: creating a unique name (SSID) for the Wi-Fi network, changing the password for accessing the router, hiding the network name, using strong encryption types, regularly updating the firmware, and others.

Earlier it was reported that scammers began to search for victims by hashtags in social networks.
