Media: FSTEC considers revocation of certificates for foreign software without technical support of companies that left the Russian Federation due to sanctions

According to the Kommersant publication, the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control (FSTEC) of Russia is going to revoke the certificates of more than 50 software products of foreign developers that stopped business and customer support work in Russia. The agency will take such actions if foreign companies do not guarantee the provision of technical support for their solutions to Russian clients within 90 days.

Industry experts explained that the revocation of certificates will force many customers and government customers to quickly switch to domestic software as part of the import substitution program.

Currently, more than 4.5 thousand software solutions, including those developed by Microsoft and other foreign companies, have certificates from the FSTEC for compliance with various information security requirements and different security classes.

According to the publication, FSTEC has already temporarily suspended the validity of certificates for software products of foreign companies, including solutions from IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Sbbabo.net, VMware, ESET, Trend Micro and others.

The source of the publication explained that the FSTEC requested clarification from foreign companies regarding technical support for already working solutions. In his opinion, it is better for customers using such foreign software to start looking for certified alternatives and think about the need to switch to them, including re-certification of their information security systems.

On March 11, the Ministry of Digital Development proposed to the departing vendors to discuss the terms of a phased transfer to Russian IT companies of technical support for information system components and IT infrastructure facilities, violations of which can lead to serious failures in life support systems.

In March, Citrix suspended all sales, service access and customer support in Russia and Belarus, including all of their foreign subsidiaries and majority affiliates. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) also announced the deactivation of all registered users from Russia and Belarus.

Since late February and early March, many foreign companies have ceased operations or temporarily left the Russian Federation, including AMD, Cisco, Dell, HP, Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Juniper, Microsoft, Mikrotik, NVIDIA, Nokia, Samsung, Siemens, Sony, TSMC , VMware, Sbbabo.net, Oracle and others.
