The main radio frequency center suggests using artificial intelligence to monitor video game content

According to the Kommersant publication, experts from the scientific and technical center of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Main Radio Frequency Center” (GRCHTs, part of the structure of Roskomnadzor) suggested using artificial intelligence to protect Russian gamers from harmful information to monitor the content of video games, including searching there for illegal content with scenes. containing child pornography, calls to commit suicide and drug use.

Experts explained to the publication that the HRChTs proposes to use a neural network analyzer for autotests of games, which can study all levels or the universe of the gaming platform much faster than a person, and then automatically issue a report with technical information on the composition of in-game content.

So far, the HRChTS wants to use such an AI as a recommendation service. The department will then send in a test mode to game studios comments, which they can eliminate voluntarily in order to legally sell their product in Russia and beyond.

Industry experts believe that if AI is used to test each game program, there may be a restriction on the availability of new video games and gaming platforms for Russian users, since there, allegedly, it will be possible to find a lot of things that are prohibited on formal grounds. They also fear that for each single-player game or online platform, the department will have to train a separate neural network, which may affect the speed of issuing a decision to satisfy the content of the game with the laws of the Russian Federation. In their opinion, sandbox games will generally be called into question because of this, since there users of all ages themselves can do a lot of things that are forbidden, which developers, even with the help of AI, will not be able to quickly block.

Currently, computer games in Russia are assigned an age marking, in accordance with the rules for the use of content accepted all over the world and article 12 of the Federal Law "On the protection of children from information that is harmful to their health and development."

In early December, the GRCHTs announced that it plans to adopt foreign experience in using game AI to train Russian military personnel in simulators to work out the principles of using military equipment in a virtual environment.

In June, the GRChTs proposed to tighten the access of Russian users to pornography on the Internet, so that only adults could receive it after confirming the session on the portal of state services.
