Roskomnadzor blocked the website of S.T.A.L.K.E.R developers

Roskomnadzor has entered the website of the Ukrainian developer GSC Game World, the creator of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, into the register of prohibited resources. The agency indicates that access to the site is limited at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The site gsc-game.com was blocked at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office dated February 24 on the basis of Art. 15.3 of Federal Law No. 149-FZ “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection,” explains the RKN. The article regulates the procedure for restricting access to sites that contain calls for riots, extremist activities or participation in illegal public events.

On March 15, GSC Game World announced that it would stop selling its games in Russia. The studio has also stopped accepting pre-orders for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, although she emphasized that players who managed to place an order will still receive a copy of the game. Exit S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was scheduled for 28 April 2022; at the beginning of the year, the studio pushed back the release to December 28.

GSC Game World is not the only company that has stopped selling games in Russia. Among the developers who made this decision were Electronic Arts (The Sims, FIFA) and Activision Blizzard (Diablo, Overwatch, World of Warcraft). Epic Games has suspended commercial activities in the country, but has not blocked access to its games. Sony Interactive Entertainment, in addition to games, has stopped selling the PlayStation in Russia.
