AvtoVAZ is ready to flood Russia with cars, but the region is already thinking about planes

AvtoVAZ is ready to flood Russia with cars: according to the estimates of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, by 2024 the company will be able to produce up to 800,000 cars, which is 2.5 times more than was produced in 2021. Well, in the region they are already thinking about the revival of aircraft construction. According to the governor of the Samara region Dmitry Azarov, discussions are now underway on the revival of the Aviakor plant to resume aircraft production.

“I want the company to produce aircraft again. We understand what kind of aircraft, but it's too early to talk about it... This is not a quick process... I hope that we will be able to do a lot to revive the full production of aircraft in Samara," Azarov said.

He recalled that in recent years the plant has been engaged in repair work, seeking contracts for the manufacture of individual components and assemblies. “But they are aircraft builders. Of course, they all dreamed of not only repairing, but also restoring aircraft production at Aviakor,” the governor stressed.

According to the head of the region, the future of the Samara plant largely depends on proper interaction with the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) and the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

“If the enterprise and the owner of the enterprise succeed in building the right system of relationships and cooperation, then I am sure that Aviakor will receive a second birth. It’s too early to talk about fixing any agreements, but for my part, I will help ensure that such agreements are reached,” Azarov explained.

The Samara plant "Aviakor" previously specialized in the production of Tu-154 and An-140 aircraft.
