Apple is “surrounded”: they want to make USB-C mandatory for smartphones not only in Europe, but also in Brazil

Not so long ago, the European Union decided that the USB-C connector will become standard for mobile phones and other products.

After that, they began to say that Apple would be forced to switch to a USB-C port in the iPhone 15. Now there is information that another large region is planning to force Apple to do this.

Brazilian regulator Anatel is reportedly discussing new requirements for smartphone manufacturers that relate to chargers. Anatel believes that USB-C can "provide more convenience for consumers" and also help reduce waste as users can reuse their chargers.

Anatel's proposal is currently in the public consultation phase and if approved, USB-C will become mandatory for smartphones sold in Brazil from July 1, 2024.

At this stage, almost all Android phones in the mobile phone market use the USB-C interface, and only the iPhone still uses Lightning.
