Nebulae, giant planet and clusters of galaxies

The first non-test photos from the James Webb Space Telescope will be published on July 12, but NASA decided to publish a list of the first targets for the observatory in advance.

There are five targets on the list, and photos of all these objects will be published the day after tomorrow.

So the list includes:

The Carina Nebula is one of the largest and brightest nebulae in the sky, located about 7,600 light-years away in the southern constellation Carina.

WASP-96 b is a giant planet outside our solar system, consisting mainly of gas. The planet, located at a distance of almost 1150 light-years from Earth, revolves around its star every 3.4 days.

The South Rim Nebula is a planetary nebula, an expanding cloud of gas surrounding a dying star. It is almost half a light year in diameter and is located about 2,000 light years from Earth.

Stephen's Quintet lies about 290 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus. This is the first compact group of galaxies, discovered in 1877.

SMACS 0723 are massive clusters of galaxies.

As you can see, already the very first list includes completely different objects at completely different distances from the Earth. It is also important that we already have high-quality photographs of some of these objects, so it will be possible to compare old pictures with new ones.
