In an interview with RIA Novosti, the president of Togliatti AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, said that the company plans to release a completely new family of Lada class C cars.

Already in the long term, we plan to use a completely new Russian platform. Maybe even a little higher class than the one in which AvtoVAZ operates today - that is, segment B. We will make steps towards class C. This will again be coordinated with the new strategy of AvtoVAZ and the Russian auto industry as a whole.

Answering a clarifying question whether this would be a fundamentally new Lada family, he stated the following: “Yes, a whole line, a whole family of models. Of course, this will require large investments. But our customers deservedly and justifiably want to drive modern cars.”

Sokolov did not indicate the specific amount of the proposed investment, noting that everything will depend on those provisions of the AvtoVAZ strategy, which will first be considered at the level of shareholders and the board of directors of the company, and then in the industry ministry - the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Now it is too early to designate some figure, but this volume corresponds to the trends of the global automotive industry. Here, as they say, there is no need to reinvent the wheel, therefore, in general, the order of numbers is clear.

Earlier, he said that AvtoVAZ plans to create a new one within the next three to four years. It should provide deep localization of electronics and all the main elements of the car.
