The owner of Tinder was fined 2 million rubles for refusing to localize the data of Russians

The judge of the Magistrate's Court No. 422 of the Tagansky District of Moscow fined Match Group LLC, which owns the dating app Tinder, 2 million rubles for refusing to localize the data of Russians in the country.

Match Group LLC was found guilty under Part 8 of Art. 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (“Failure by the operator, when collecting personal data, of the obligation to ensure the recording, systematization, accumulation, storage of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation using databases located on the territory of the Russian Federation”).

It is noted that Roskomnadzor sent a request for the localization of personal data of Tinder users, but the company that owns the application did not do this. Then an administrative protocol was drawn up.

Earlier, on July 28, Snap Inc., which owns the Snapchat messenger, was fined 1 million rubles for refusing to localize Russian data. Also, for repeated refusal to localize the data of Russian users, the WhatsApp messenger was fined 18 million rubles.

Earlier, Apple was fined for refusing to store data of Russian users in the country (it was fined 2 million rubles), Zoom, Twitch, Pinterest, Airbnb and other companies.

Under current law, foreign companies without a physical presence in Russia must localize the data of Russian users if they operate in the country.
