All Online: LinkedIn Closes Global Events Marketing Division

LinkedIn has announced a "restructuring" of the marketing division that handled the company's "global events". In practice, this means the closure of the direction and the dismissal of all employees.

The company did not specify the number of specialists affected by the restructuring. But a LinkedIn spokesperson told AdWeek that people are being encouraged to apply for positions on a new team focused on creating hybrid, in-person and virtual activities.

In a post today, AdWeek quotes senior unit manager Chuck Johnson as posted on LinkedIn: “Due to a difficult turn of events, my entire team was fired today (our last day of work is September 9th). Luckily, there are a lot of new internal roles we can apply for and speed up the hiring process, as well as some great internal resources, but the thing is, these things are never easy. This is not the first time in my career (and probably not the last) but I just want to take a moment to let my younger teammates know that these things happen and you will be fine. However, let it be known in the brand and technology marketplace that there is a whole pool of extremely talented individuals who bring the brand experience to life.”

The last time personnel news from LinkedIn appeared in May: then the US Department of Labor ordered the company to pay 686 of its employees $1.75 million in wage arrears. They were found to have suffered "systematic pay discrimination based on gender".
