“It’s really real”: in Russia, they can still turn off smartphones

A few days ago, Natalya Kasperskaya announced that all smartphones can be remotely disabled in Russia. And Telecom Daily CEO Denis Kuskov, commenting on this statement for Izvestia, confirmed this possibility.

“It's really real. Smartphones run an operating system, and Google owns it, if we are talking about Android, so it can be turned off. There is nothing new in this. You can disable any smartphone that is connected to the Internet, and if it is not connected, then it is not clear why a smartphone is needed at all. The only thing we can do to protect ourselves is to create our own smartphone and operating system, ”the expert said.

At the same time, it was previously reported that a mobile version of the Astra OS based on Linux was presented in Russia. It supports various hardware and allows you to connect peripherals to your smartphone to work on it like on a regular PC.

At the same time, it has not yet been reported which smartphones can receive such an operating system. It is also unclear when Russia will have its own full-fledged smartphones that will not yield to Western solutions.

Earlier, Kuskov already stated that in Russia there is a shortage of spare parts for Samsung and Huawei smartphones, which are not officially supplied to the Russian Federation.
