Sony has almost completely redesigned the PlayStation 5

We already wrote that a new version of the PlayStation 5 went on sale in Australia - with the catalog number CFI-1200. It turned out to be noticeably lighter than other versions of the console, but, as the “autopsy” showed, there are much more changes inside than one might expect.

The PlayStation 5 now has three versions: CFI-1000 (original model with optical drive), CF-1100 (original model without optical drive) and CFI-1200 (new console that went on sale in Australia, without optical drive). Austin Evans took all three apart and compared them. The CFI-1000 and CFI-1100 have practically no differences (if they are not due to the presence of ODD), but the CFI-1200 is like a completely different model: there is a shortened motherboard, a more compact cooling system, a different molding of plastic panels, and even in a new way installed CMOS battery (to get to it, you need to completely disassemble the console).

The CFI-1200 has a heat pipe with a heatsink on the back panel of the motherboard - probably, this made it possible to unload the main block of the cooling system from the other side.

The total mass of the cooling system and the CFI-1200 motherboard is 1135 grams - about 450 grams less than the weight of the motherboard and the CFI-1000 and CFI-1100 cooling system.

But all the innovations have not only reduced the weight of the console, but also optimized power consumption. When playing Astro's Playroom, the CFI-1000 consumed 218W, the CFI-1100 229W, and the CFI-1200 201W. The savings are obvious, despite the fact that the noise level and heating in all cases were approximately the same.

Sony has not yet officially introduced the CFI-1200 (even though the device is already on sale). There is speculation that the company will talk about the new PS5 on September 15th. And yesterday, we recall, Sony introduced the DualSense controller, Pulse 3D headphones and replaceable panels for the PlayStation 5 in camouflage.
