In Romania, they want to abandon Russian antiviruses - a draft law is already ready

At a meeting of the Romanian government, a draft law on the protection of information systems of state institutions and structures was approved. As part of it, it is proposed to ban the use of Russian anti-virus software in these institutions. The reason for this is called possible cyber attacks using such software.

“The measure is being taken as experts warn that the presence of Russian anti-virus software poses a threat to the cyber security of Romanian authorities and institutions. In all EU member states, there is a tendency to issue recommendations or regulations that require government agencies to replace anti-virus solutions if they directly or indirectly originate in the Russian Federation, as there is a risk that the Russian Federation exploits these programs for cyber attacks, ”the document says.

This measure is introduced as a temporary measure and will be in effect until the resolution of the current geopolitical situation around Ukraine.

And Radio Romania clarifies that we are talking, first of all, about the products and services of Kaspersky Lab. They must be replaced with other products within 60 days from the law comes into force. Penalties are provided for violations.

At the same time, it is noted that many government agencies use Russian antiviruses because of their low price. Among those are, for example, the capital's mayor's office and local administrations.

Earlier it was reported that Kaspersky Lab will release an operating system for PCs and smartphones
