YouTube will offer all users nicknames

All YouTube users will soon receive a new identification method. The company announced that it will implement @name descriptors.

Each YouTube user will have a unique ID that is displayed on the platform, ranging from channel pages to Shorts videos. Users will be able to use the handle to mention others in comments, video descriptions, titles, and more.

“We want creators to be able to create unique looks like their content while giving viewers the confidence to interact with their favorite creators,” the YouTube blog says.

The channel names will remain the same.

YouTube will be rolling out the handles gradually starting this week, notifying users when it's their turn to pick a nickname. If the user has already created a custom URL for their channel, then it will become the default handle with an edit option.

YouTube previously announced the addition of watermarks to Shorts videos. Users will be deprived of the ability to share videos uploaded to Shorts in other applications without watermarks.

YouTube is also working on a new program that allows creators to monetize their long videos that use licensed music. At the same time, the company is reviewing monetization in Shorts. It is launching an ad revenue sharing program that will see short video creators receive 45% of the revenue.
