The head of the Vector center admitted that it is technically possible to withdraw the omicron artificially

Rinat Maksyutov, general director of the Vector Center of Rospotrebnadzor, said that the omicron coronavirus strain can be technically withdrawn artificially. The expert also added that “I want to believe that such work is not being carried out on purpose”. This was stated on Wednesday in an interview with Naila Asker-zade in the Vesti program on the Russia-1 TV channel.

Maksyutov said that the center has already received more than 30 complete genomes of the new variant of COVID-19.

On November 26, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the B.1.1.529 coronavirus strain found in South Africa with the Greek letter omicron.

It is reported that a new variation of the virus has already been identified in more than 100 countries.

In Russia, 41 cases of infection with the new omicron strain have been registered.

Earlier, Maksyutov said that the omicron strain spreads three times faster than the delta strain.

On December 22, more than 100 thousand coronavirus infections were registered in the UK per day.

The American edition of the Akron Beacon Journal, citing medical specialist Claudia Hoyen, reported that omicron is "much more infectious" than previous strains of the coronavirus. In terms of its infectivity, this option is second only to the virus that causes measles.
