Microsoft will stop supporting the open source version of the .NET 7 development tool after May 14, 2024. It was released in November 2022 and was supported as an odd year and a half.

Since the monthly Patch Tuesday is scheduled for May 14, .NET 7 may receive the latest update on the same day.

After May 14:

applications using .NET 7 will continue to work,

no security updates will be released,

It is possible to gain access to technical support for .NET 7 applications.

In addition, Microsoft says that the .NET 7 feature in Visual Studio will be changed to unsupported and optional in versions 2022 17.6 and 2022 17.4 with updates in June 2024.

The company advises those using .NET 7 apps to contact the developer or check to see if a .NET 8 version exists.

The .NET 8 version was officially released in November 2023, and its support will end no earlier than November 2026. In February 2024, the company presented the first preview of the next update to the .NET 9 tool. Its official release is scheduled for November 2024.

In January, Microsoft also announced a tool called Azure Migrate and a code assessment tool for .NET called AppCAT. It is designed to help developers migrate on-premises .NET applications to Azure. AppCAT allows you to evaluate .NET source code, configurations, and binaries, identifying potential issues and opportunities during the migration process.
