Coca-Cola plans to spend $1.1 billion to use Microsoft's cloud and artificial intelligence services

Microsoft announced an agreement with Coca-Cola, which plans to spend $1.1 billion over five years to use the Seattle corporation's cloud and artificial intelligence services.

The beverage maker has already migrated its applications to Microsoft Azure and uses the Azure OpenAI service in marketing, supply chain and other areas.

According to a Microsoft press release, Coca-Cola is exploring the use of AI assistants in the Azure OpenAI service to help employees improve the customer experience, streamline operations, leverage innovation, gain a competitive advantage, increase efficiency and unlock new growth opportunities.

Microsoft and Coca-Cola also plan to jointly experiment with new services, including Copilot for Microsoft 365, to see if such solutions can be used to improve productivity.

In 2020, the two companies entered into a five-year partnership under which Coca-Cola agreed to use Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365 in its business. The contract also included the implementation of Microsoft and Microsoft Teams for Coca-Cola employees.

The deal was struck in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the food company used Microsoft 365 Live Events to host virtual staff meetings. As part of this partnership, Coca-Cola spent $250 million to use Microsoft services.
