The "Omicron" strain of the coronavirus infected more than 60% of the participants in the closed scientific conference, even though they had previously been vaccinated three times. This was reported by scientists from the Faroe Islands on medRxiv.
The experts noted that the omicron strain spreads very quickly even among those who received three doses of the vaccine. It is noted that the incubation period for this variation of the virus has become noticeably shorter.
“This may explain why it is spreading so quickly,” the scientific article said.
In early December 2021, several participants in a small closed scientific conference in Torshavn (capital of the Faroe Islands) felt unwell and sought medical help.
After all the conference participants passed PCR tests for coronavirus, it turned out that 21 out of 33 scientists were infected with it. Genetic analysis of the samples revealed the omicron variant.
Infected conference participants were vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine three times.
Virologists have previously described the immunity that protects against the omicron. Virologist at the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F.
