Apple to ditch Intel processors altogether this year

2022 will be a significant year for Apple, especially compared to last year's lackluster year, Bloomberg writes.

Last year was a record-breaking year in terms of profit, but the new items are not strong. The June WWDC cannot be compared to the previous one, which presented its own processors and an updated macOS. And now - just iOS 15, watchOS 8 and macOS Monterey with minor changes. Probably the most successful product of the year was the updated MacBook Pro.

But in the coming year, Yabloko promise to improve. To begin with, the company is completely switching to its own processors.

Maybe someone remembers Apple's 2006 presentation where the first Intel-based MacBook was introduced.

And now the era ends. Most likely, the migration to Apple's own processors will be completed before WWDC 2022 in June, Bloomberg writes.

Apple is currently preparing new models of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops, as well as Mac Pro, iMac and Mac mini desktops with faster M1 Pro and M1 Max processors.

In particular, the most powerful system-on-a-chip is being developed for the Mac Pro workstation, which contains 40 CPU cores and 128 graphics cores. Even among the top-end processors from Intel and AMD, it is not so easy to find something comparable in performance.

It should be added that the M1 Pro and M1 Max processors still amaze experts who continue to run benchmarks in different operating modes and different tests. For example, see the latest benchmark results for the energy efficient E (Icestorm) cores in the M1 Pro.

Among the interesting results: it turns out that the two E cores in the new M1 Pro outperform the four E cores of the old M1 in performance. Also, macOS 12.1 performs differently with the four E cores of the original M1 and the two new M1 Pros. For example, with a heavy load of low-priority requests, the clock frequency of the old E-cores remains the same, while the new ones doubles to 2000 MHz. And there are many such interesting moments.

According to the forecast and information from Bloomberg sources, in 2022 Apple plans to release the following products:

Biggest MacBook Air redesign in history

update of the younger model MacBook Pro;

new iPad Pro with wireless charging;

a new external monitor at half the price of Pro Display XDR;

iPhone SE with 5G support;

iPhone 14 with a punch-hole display (with a hole for the camera), a first for Apple phones;

three new Apple Watch (including a rubberized version for extreme athletes);

iOS 16 (Sydney);

macOS 13 (Rome);

and the main novelty of the year - a virtual and augmented reality helmet, codenamed N301, with a real-time operating system rOS (Oak).

The release of the VR helmet from Apple may become a trigger for the entire market, which was the release of the branded iPhone smartphone at one time.
