Dmitry Khubezov, head of the Russian State Duma committee on health protection, said that a complete lockdown is possible if more than 40,000 people fall ill every day - this is the peak for the healthcare system. He spoke about this on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.

“In the event that we return to the previous wave, this 41,000-odd infected, in fact, is the peak incidence that our healthcare system (can withstand) ... approximately this number is calculated daily,” Khubezov said.

He noted that if the number of cases in Russia is many times greater, then the introduction of a lockdown should not be ruled out.

Khubezov also noted that at the moment we can confidently say that there will be no complete lockdown in the country.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to work out the issues of vaccination against coronavirus and the mobilization of various institutions in order to prepare for a new round of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the President, Russia has approximately two weeks to prepare for a new blow from the pandemic.
