Russia (bbabo.net), - More than 40% of municipal solid waste was sent for sorting in 2021. This was announced by the head of the Russian environmental operator Denis Butsaev.

"According to the federal waste management scheme, an average of 59.7 million tons of waste is generated annually in Russia. At the same time, according to the regions, the level of processing, that is, sorting, was 40.6%. This is 10% higher than in 2020 (then the figure was at the level of 30%)," he said.

In total, in 2021, 61 waste management facilities were put into operation in 34 regions, of which 33 sorting facilities and 11 complex sorting facilities. According to Butsaev, the total capacity of the processing facilities that were commissioned last year is 5.35 million tons.

At the same time, the total capacity of processing facilities in the country is 28.9 million tons.

"REO provides financial support for investors in waste management infrastructure. In 2021, we financed five projects for 6.1 billion rubles," added the head of the Russian Environmental Operator

According to the national project "Ecology", by 2030 the level of sorting in Russia should reach 100%. At the same time, the share of landfill should be reduced by 50%.
