"Now the design work is underway, it has actually been completed in the laboratory conditions of Sputnik V, which contains the omicron sequence," the scientist said on the air of Rossiya 24.
He also specified that it would take about 2.5-3 months to replace the existing version of Sputnik V with its adaptation to Omicron.
Earlier, Gunzburg said that Sputnik V does not need to be modified for the new strain. He explained that the number of specific antibodies in those vaccinated with Sputnik is much wider, that is, a wider range of virus-neutralizing antibodies is formed.
At the same time, the creators of mRNA vaccines are already working hard to update them, taking into account the features of the "omicron". For example, Pfizer CEO Albert Burla said that an Omicron modification of their vaccine would be released in March, while Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said that a booster vaccine against Omicron should be ready by autumn.
