A powerful cyclone, which brought heavy snowfalls and strong winds, left several settlements in the Sakhalin Region without electricity, Interfax reports with reference to the press service of PJSC Sakhalinenergo.

“Repair work continues on power lines in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the city of Korsakov, in the villages of Tambovskoye, Zhideyevo, Chistovodnoye, Starodubskoye, Yablochnoye, Pyatirechye,” the message says.

In addition, the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport announced the delay of 12 flights. Especially strongly the cyclone "walked" through the southern part of Sakhalin.

The cyclone came from the Sea of ​​Japan. Several roads have already been closed in the region, including the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk-Sinegorsk, Troitskoye-Novotroitskoye and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk-Korsakov sections.

Residents of remote areas of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk are advised to return home so that in case of worsening weather conditions, they will not get into snow jams. Residents of Sinegorsk, Sanatorny and Bereznyakov are escorted home by traffic police crews. In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, more than 200 pieces of equipment and 100 workers are involved in snow removal and removal.
