The Moscow metro tightened control over the wearing of masks

The Moscow Metro has tightened control over compliance with the mask regime due to the increase in the incidence of COVID-19, Vladislav Sultanov, head of the Organizer of Transportation GKU, told RIA Novosti.

He pointed out that the situation with the incidence of COVID-19 is tense, in connection with which it was decided to strengthen control over compliance with anti-COVID measures throughout the entire transport complex of the capital.

“Particular attention will be paid to the situation in the subway cars, as many passengers remove their masks or lower them to their chins when passing through the control line at the turnstiles. This is necessary to maintain a safe environment in transport,” Sultanov said.

Enhanced checks will also continue on ground transport, at metro entrances, at the MCC, MCD and metropolitan stations. Sultanov urged citizens to take their health seriously, wear masks correctly, completely covering their respiratory organs. He stressed that wearing protective equipment and vaccination will help contain the spread of the virus and help stabilize the epidemiological situation in the city.

In Moscow, the daily number of cases of COVID-19 is increasing. According to the latest data, 5490 new cases of infection were detected in the capital per day, and the day before, on January 12, 4008.

Earlier, virologist Petr Chumakov told how long the fifth wave of coronavirus caused by a new strain of COVID-19 "omicron" will last.
