The police department of the Zhambyl district of Kazakhstan reported that a Russian woman who died during the pogroms in the city of Taraz died from a gunshot wound, RIA Novosti reports.

The department confirmed that the deceased Maria Kim was a citizen of Russia, and lived in Kazakhstan on the basis of a residence permit. The police stressed that the woman died from a gunshot wound during the riots, "when the assembled armed men began to shoot."

“The information about stab wounds indicated in the media publications is not true,” the department noted.

Earlier, the Mash Telegram channel reported that a 26-year-old Russian woman died from stab wounds at the hands of marauders. According to the source of the publication, when the riots began, the woman had to close the cafe where she worked, and she was attacked.

The Russian Embassy in the republic sent a request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan demanding a thorough investigation of the incident and expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased. Investigators have launched an investigation into what happened.
