Ex-Minister of Energy of Ukraine put on international wanted list

The representative of the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine (SBI) Tatyana Sapyan said at a briefing that the country's former Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchishin had been put on the international wanted list, UNIAN reports.

“The location of his location is now being established,” the SBI communications adviser said.

She did not specify additional details on the situation with Demchishin.

Demchyshyn, together with ex-president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, head of the political council of the Opposition Platform - For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk and businessman Serhiy Kuzyara, is a suspect in the case of treason and financing of terrorism due to coal supplies from Donbass in 2014-2015 . Kuzyara and Medvedchuk are under house arrest, Poroshenko's status is to be determined by the court.

According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the aforementioned Medvedchuk participated in a conspiracy against the country in order to undermine the energy security of the state.

As the SBU explained, Ukraine used to receive coal from Donbass, but after 2014 it found itself “on the verge of an energy crisis.” Kiev tried to switch to world markets, but the country's opponents, through the mediation of Medvedchuk, thwarted this plan. As a result, the inhabitants of Ukraine are faced with massive power outages. Later, Medvedchuk “in order to “return Ukraine into the orbit of Russia’s influence” helped organize illegal supplies of coal from the Donbass to Ukrainian enterprises.
