The head of the Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, said that the first case of infection with a new strain of COVID-19 "omicron" was confirmed in the region. This was reported in the politician's Telegram channel.

In connection with the detection of "omicron", the head of the republic instructed to strengthen restrictive measures.

“We have taken preventive organizational measures. First of all, to completely ban the holding of mass events, meetings in enclosed spaces for more than three people, that is, [hold] only in large halls, ”Aksenov emphasized.

During the meeting, the head of the Crimea clarified how social facilities and enterprises would work if a coronavirus infection was recorded among workers.

“The first person who fell ill with omicron appeared in the institution, the institution is essentially moving to martial law, that is, to quarantine in this case,” Aksenov added.

Earlier, virologist Pyotr Chumakov did not rule out that the fifth wave of coronavirus caused by the spread of the “omicron” strain of COVID-19 would last about six months.

Russian scientists also predicted a daily increase in patients with COVID-19 in the country by 65 thousand people.
