The expert evaluated the effectiveness of lockdowns in case of omicron strain

With the spread of the Omicron coronavirus strain, lockdowns have limited effectiveness. This was announced on the air of the radio station "Moscow speaking" by virologist Alexander Lukashev.

“Lockdowns have very limited effectiveness against Omicron. Because the virus is highly contagious. The lockdown was introduced in the Netherlands, and it allowed to win for about a week. Hardly reduced the total number of cases. If there was a desire to introduce a lockdown, this should have been done in mid-December or early January, ”the expert noted.

According to Lukashev, many Russians are already at the stage of the so-called incubation period and the symptoms of the coronavirus disease will appear in them in the near future.

Earlier, Interfax, citing informed sources, said that the Russian authorities do not yet plan to introduce a lockdown in the country due to the new strain of the omicron coronavirus. It is noted that the regions will independently decide on the introduction of restrictive measures, taking into account the epidemiological situation.

According to another source, the incidence of COVID-19 in the Russian Federation is growing at a very fast pace and, according to mathematical calculations, for example in Moscow, in a week the number of infected people can increase to 20 thousand per day.
