The head of the UK demanded a report on the verification of the theft of Scythian gold

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin demanded a report on the pre-investigation check on the theft of a collection of Scythian gold from four museums in Crimea. This was reported on the website of the UK.

It is noted that Bastrykin demanded an account in connection with the removal of more than 2 thousand artifacts of Scythian culture belonging to the museums of the Republic of Crimea, and the subsequent decision of the Amsterdam Court of Appeal to transfer them to Ukraine.

Also, the main department of the Investigative Committee was instructed to provide the necessary assistance to colleagues from the regional division in establishing the circumstances of the incident, the report says.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the theft of a collection of Scythian gold belonging to four museums in Crimea, saying that the Kremlin was monitoring the situation.

Scythian gold represents a collection of more than 2,000 items used to design the exposition "Crimea: gold and the secrets of the Black Sea." The exhibition was organized from February to August 2014 at the Allard Pearson Museum in Amsterdam. In March, Crimea became a region of Russia, but the Dutch authorities decided not to transfer the exhibits to either Ukraine or Crimean museums.

In October 2021, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal ruled that the collection of Scythian gold should be transferred to Ukraine. Soon it was clarified that Russia would appeal the decision to transfer the Scythian gold to Ukraine. In October 2021, the Russian side's appeal against this court decision was rejected. The collection still remains in the Netherlands.
