Zelensky said that the threat of imposing sanctions provokes Moscow to escalate

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told US senators who visited Kiev that imposing anti-Russian sanctions after a hypothetical Russian invasion makes no sense. This is reported by the Axios portal, citing a source close to Zelensky.

“The President [of Ukraine] said very clearly: Sanctions on Nord Stream 2 should be introduced now. Any conditional measures against Nord Stream 2 and other sanctions will not help,” the source said.

According to him, Zelensky emphasized that Moscow would either take the threat of sanctions neutrally, or it would spur it to escalate tensions on the Russian-Ukrainian border.

Earlier, White House press secretary Jen Psaki explained what the US authorities mean when they talk about a possible Russian attack. Any crossing by the Russian military of the Ukrainian border will be regarded by Washington as an invasion.
