Roskosmos showed what was left of the island of Tonga after the volcanic eruption

Roscosmos showed what was left of the island of Tonga after the eruption of the underwater volcano Hunga-Khaapa in the Pacific Ocean. The picture posted on Twitter by the state corporation shows the border of the island before the state of emergency. After him, part of the land went under water.

In addition, Roskosmos reported that the Russian satellite Kanopus-V is monitoring the consequences of a natural disaster on the island of Tonga.

A powerful eruption of the underwater volcano Hunga-Haapai, which lasted several days, and the tsunami provoked by it, led to large-scale destruction in the island Kingdom of Tonga. So, local authorities evacuated the head of the island state Tupou VI from the royal palace in the capital city of Nuku'alofa.

According to the Geological Survey of Tonga, the volcanic eruption was the largest since December 2021 and caused a number of small tsunamis recorded off the coast of Tongatapu, the largest island in the archipelago.

The government of the country confirmed that as a result of the rampant elements, the entire residential infrastructure of the Mango and Atata islands, where about 150 people lived, was completely destroyed, but so far only three people are among the dead, the fate of the rest remains unknown.
