Shape-Shifting Material changes its form when heated

Scientists from the University of Rochester have developed a flexible polymer, which returns to its original shape when heated to human body temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, Iflscience reports.

The new polymer has shape memory effect. It can stretch, twist or bend, but when heated it returns to its original state. The substance responds to human body temperature, i.e., 35 degrees Celsius enough to run the reverse process of deformation.

Experts believe that there are many industries where their discovery could be useful today. In particular, the polymer can be used to create artificial skin or clothing that adapts to human sizes. During the tests, the experts found that the material can also lift and move loads.
