Krist was 30 years old, in addition to participating in beauty contests, she worked as a lawyer and on television. The American left the entire fortune to her mother, also a former participant in beauty contests. Krist has previously revealed that she is undergoing psychotherapy. The body was found at the foot of the 60-story Orion building around 7 am local time. The body was found with injuries characteristic of a fall from a great height, the American died on the spot.

Krist lived in this skyscraper on the ninth floor and crashed to death after falling from the terrace on the 29th floor, which is freely accessible to all residents of the building, sources told the New York Post.

The New York City Police Department told The Hollywood Reporter that it considered the case a suicide.

“Not only beautiful, but also smart. She had a life that anyone would envy. It’s so sad,” said a police source.

According to sources, Krist left a note in which she indicated that she wanted to transfer the entire fortune to her mother, former beauty contestant April Simpkins. The deceased did not disclose the motives of her act in the note.

Krist was born April 28, 1991 in Michigan, later the family moved to North Carolina. Her mother won the Miss North Carolina pageant in 2002 when Krist was a child. The daughter began to participate in beauty contests since school, in 2019 she received the title of Miss North Carolina for the second time. After that, Krist won the right to represent her state in the Miss USA 2019 pageant.

The model went around all rivals and at the age of 28 became the oldest woman to receive the title of Miss USA. Before her, the record was held by Nana Meriwether, who won Miss USA at 27.

With Krist's win, 2019 was the first year that all four major American beauty pageants were won by women of African descent (Miss Universe, Miss Teen USA, Miss America, and Miss USA. Miss America is the older national beauty pageant than Miss USA, today the latter is considered more prestigious, since only Miss USA can then compete for the title of Miss Universe). Krist represented the United States at Miss Universe 2019 and was one of the top ten finalists.

She also became the longest-serving Miss USA title holder in the pageant's history. Krist kept it for 557 days as the coronavirus pandemic pushed back the next pageants.

According to Krist, her victory in the "Miss USA" broke the stereotypes about how the owner of this title should look like.

“Girls participating in the contest are supposed to be tall and slender, with full hair and a killer walk. But I won at five-foot-six, six-pack abs from years of competitive track and field, and a head of natural curls. And this at a time when generations of black women were taught that if they were “too black”, they would not succeed both at work and in spectacular performances, ”explained Krist.

In addition to her participation in beauty pageants, she ran a fashion blog called White Collar Glam, in which she inspired women to dress beautifully and stylishly not only on special occasions, but also in everyday life, in the workplace.

Outside of beauty pageants, Krist has a law degree, earning her Juris Doctor in 2017. Worked as a lawyer, dealing with civil litigation. As a charity, she helped free some clients who were on drug charges. In particular, she collaborated with the well-known American lawyer Brittany Barnett, who in the United States is fighting for the mitigation of punishments under "drug" articles. Krist and Barnett worked together to secure a pardon for Alfred Rivera, who was sentenced to life in prison for non-violent drug offenses.

After winning Miss USA 2019, Krist began working in television as a New York reporter for ExtraTV. For her accomplishments in this area, she has received two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Entertainment News Program.

Our hearts are broken. Chesley was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of the Extra family and managed to win over the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends," Krist's death commented on ExtraTV.

Extra host Billy Bush said in reference to Krist's death that she was "hard-working and fun-loving" and always danced between takes. Another colleague of Krist's from Extra, Renée Bargh, called her "the sweetest, kindest, smartest woman he's ever met."

Krist revealed in 2019 that she is undergoing psychotherapy. A few hours before her death, she wrote on her Instagram page: "May this day bring you peace and tranquility."After the news of the death of an American woman, this post has already collected more than 31 thousand comments, where people express their condolences because of her death and appreciate her personality highly and warmly.

The world will never be the same without you,” former Miss South Carolina winner Mackenzie Divina, who competed against Krist in the Miss USA 2019 pageant, wrote on her page.
