Russia (bbabo.net), - Elderly patients, as well as people with chronic diseases, should not stop therapy for the underlying disease, both in the treatment of banal SARS and coronavirus infection. If the condition worsens, you need to consult a doctor and adjust the treatment, said Nadezhda Runikhina, chief freelance geriatrician of the Moscow Department of Health.
In most people infected with "omicron", the infection is similar in symptoms to a common cold or flu. And the elderly are no exception. But in patients who are at risk (and these are just people over 60 and chronic), even a mild course of coronavirus can provoke a worsening of the underlying disease.
"With mild SARS and coronavirus and a stable general condition of the patient, you can seek an audio consultation or come to an appointment with the doctor on duty. In the vast majority of cases, specific therapy for older people is not needed, only symptomatic therapy, for example, taking antipyretics at high body temperature" , - RIA Novosti quotes a geriatrician.
“But even with a mild course of the disease, it is important for patients to remember that therapy of the underlying disease should be carried out especially carefully. Patients must follow the recommendations and take the drugs that were prescribed by the doctor before the disease,” Runikhina recalled.
She listed the main groups of patients who need to be sure to continue taking drugs: these are hypertensive patients (they need drugs to reduce high blood pressure), people with cardiovascular ailments who take blood-thinning drugs to correct cholesterol levels, as well as diabetics.
The doctor stressed that if the condition worsens, in some cases, the issue of hospitalizing the patient in a covid hospital will be decided, because elderly patients are at risk.
"Any disease with ARVI and coronavirus can worsen, but, first of all, in elderly patients it is coronary heart disease with arrhythmia, heart failure, diabetes mellitus. And as a separate group, I would single out patients who are observed by an oncologist," added geriatrician.
