Russia (bbabo.net), - A 65-year-old man was taken to the emergency department of the Botkin hospital with a suspected stroke. As it turned out, shortly before that, he had passed out twice - first for a short time on the escalator in the subway, and then at the entrance to the shopping center. An ambulance promptly took him to the hospital.
After contrast angiography at the Regional Vascular Center, the doctors' assumption was confirmed: a thrombus was found in the left middle cerebral artery. The man's speech and motor functions were seriously impaired. His condition was extremely difficult. The doctors decided to perform endovascular thrombus extraction: they injected a drug that dissolves the clot, and then performed a surgical operation to remove it. The thrombus was successfully removed, and the blood flow in the damaged vessel was completely restored.
On the same day, the patient was referred for further observation and treatment to the intensive care unit. On the monitor with indicators of the work of the heart, it was revealed that the man had severe cardiac arrhythmias. During the consultation, it was decided to install a pacemaker. The operation was successful.
Now the patient feels well, the man has no neurological disorders with which he was initially admitted.
As the doctors note, in this case, time was a critical factor that allowed the man to completely return to normal life. Thanks to the patient's quick hospitalization at the Botkin Hospital, where the Regional Vascular Center operates, the surgeons were able not only to remove the thrombus in a timely manner, but also promptly identify cardiac abnormalities and install a pacemaker. In both cases, a delay in qualified medical care could lead to severe disability or even result in death.
Regional vascular centers have been established in the capital on the basis of multidisciplinary hospitals. They are equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical equipment, including angiographs and X-ray surgical complexes, and are staffed by specially trained doctors and nurses. Such centers are the basis for the heart attack and stroke networks created in Moscow. Thanks to the creation of such networks, patients are provided with timely and effective medical care.
