Russia (bbabo.net), - Russian scientists have developed a new technique that identifies three subspecies of the Omicron strain. The development will allow for prompt virological monitoring and timely response to changes in the epidemiological situation. Research is carried out by real-time PCR, TASS writes with reference to Rospotrebnadzor.
Earlier, the chief sanitary doctor of Russia, Anna Popova, said that more than 250 cases of the omicron BA.2 subspecies of the omicron strain have already been detected in 44 regions of the country. Its share is 3 percent of the total number of infections. The vast majority of cases are in Moscow, Mari El, the Rostov region and Bashkiria.
"To date, 253 sequences belong to the BA.2 lineage, while the BA.3 lineage has not been identified in the Russian Federation," Popova added.
The head of the scientific group of Rospotrebnadzor, Kamil Khafizov, said that the appearance of sublines of strains from the point of view of viral evolution is a common occurrence.
