Russia (bbabo.net), - The increase in the incidence of coronavirus infection in Russia will continue for some time, says Natalya Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Clinical and Analytical Work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.

"The increase in the incidence continues. And it will be observed for some time, since all regions are at different stages of the next epidemic rise in the incidence," Pshenichnaya said (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Earlier, a colleague of Natalia Pshenichnaya, Deputy Director for Science of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, Alexander Gorelov, explained that in the standard epidemiological situation of the spread of a respiratory viral infection, the increase in the incidence usually lasts 30-45 days, after which there is a stabilization period, and after about two months the number of infected people begins to decrease.

The rise in the incidence of COVID-19 with the arrival of the Omicron strain began after the New Year holidays, so a plateau can be expected in mid-February. At the same time, in regions where the increase in the number of infected people began earlier, the situation will stabilize earlier. So, the Moscow authorities have already announced that the daily number of cases in the capital has begun to decline.

At the same time, according to Pshenichnaya, a sharp rise in the incidence of "omicron" may be accompanied by an equally rapid decline - this, in particular, is evidenced by the experience of South Africa and Great Britain, where the wave caused by the new strain has almost disappeared.

She explained that in Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg, the omicron strain, which is more infectious than the delta, is already dominant, which is why the growth is so rapid.
