Russia - Court of Cassation upholds 15-year sentence for Alexander Shestun

Russia (bbabo.net), - The First Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the verdict against the former head of the Serpukhov District of the Moscow Region, Alexander Shestun.

"Having comprehensively studied the materials of the case, the arguments of the cassation appeals and having heard the positions of the parties, the Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the First Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction did not find grounds for canceling or changing the verdict," the press service of the court told the correspondent. They also noted that the collegium came to the conclusion that the courts of first and appeal instances had not committed violations of criminal procedure laws that would have affected the outcome of the case and cast doubt on the conclusion that Shestun was guilty. Alexander Shestun himself participated in the process via videoconferencing.

As recalled in the Court of Cassation, by the verdict of the Podolsky City Court, Alexander Shestun was found guilty of taking bribes on an especially large scale, namely 9 million 919 thousand rubles from December 24, 2012 to March 23, 2018. He was also found guilty of fraud and illegal acquisition of ownership of four land plots in the Serpukhov district with a total area of ​​103 thousand square meters. m, with a total cost of 64 million 590 thousand rubles, from February 2008 to April 25, 2011.

In addition, Shestun was found guilty of legalizing criminally acquired property and illegal participation of an official in entrepreneurial activities. For the totality of crimes, he was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 15 years with his serving in a strict regime correctional colony, with a fine of 49,595,620 rubles. He was also deprived of the right to hold positions in state bodies and local governments for 8 years.
