60,000 bees stolen from grocery chain headquarters

About 60,000 bees were stolen from Giant's corporate hive at its headquarters in Pennsylvania. It is reported by The Guardian.

“Bees are an integral part of our food supply chain and having these hives was one of the ways we helped address the declining bee population here in our hometown,” said company manager Jessica Groves.

A police investigation is currently underway.

It is noted that the hives were built in 2020 to solve the problem of a critical decline in the bee population in the state. So, for the year from the beginning of 2020 to the middle of 2021, beekeepers in Pennsylvania lost about 40% of their bees.

Previously, scientists found that the diet of meat-eating bees, which is uncharacteristic for most bees, is due to the fact that hyena bacteria were found in their bodies.
