Gerboldt: if Kondratyuk performed like in a team tournament, he would be in the top five

Figure skater Katharina Gerboldt evaluated the results in the men's single skating at the end of the short and free programs at the Beijing Olympics. Gold was won by American Nathan Chen, silver and bronze by Japanese Yuma Kagiyama and Sema Uno. Two-time Olympic champion from Japan Yuzuru Hanyu became the fourth. The best of the Russians, Yevgeny Semenenko, took eighth place, Mark Kondratyuk - 15th, Andrey Mozalev - 19th.

“Still young debutants. Mark showed himself very well in the team tournament, but, unfortunately, he did not have enough strength for the personal tournament - the break was too short. But nevertheless, for each of them it is a good experience and a reserve for the future. By age, they obviously can go through more than one Olympic cycle. All, a decent debut. Andrei Mozalev may have blurred the picture a little. But I gained experience, and I don’t see anything terrible - we didn’t expect any prizes from them.

I think that one could be upset if we claimed at least bronze. How many have already said that it would be great if the guys enter the top six. Unfortunately, this did not happen, but if Mark skated the way he did in the team tournament, then he could be in the top five, ”said Gerboldt.

At the moment, Russia still has one Olympic gold in figure skating after winning the team tournament. Dance couples are next to join the fight, on February 12 they will compete in rhythm dance. Russia will be represented by duets Victoria Sinitsina / Nikita Katsalapov, Alexandra Stepanova / Ivan Bukin and Diana Davis / Gleb Smolkin.

Earlier, Gerboldt reacted to the news that the doping test of Russian woman Kamila Valieva could have given a positive result.
