British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, during a conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu, noted that countries have different positions on a number of issues, TASS reports.
“We can try to go ahead, resolve our issues through diplomacy and other measures, as well as through general confidence-building measures,” he said.
In particular, countries see the situation in Ukraine and the incident in Salisbury with the poisoning of Sergei Skripal differently.
Wallace expressed his hope for discussion of issues on the bilateral agenda and stressed the importance of establishing a permanent channel of communication between the military of Great Britain and Russia. The Minister also noted that the British authorities are not going to follow the principle of "Divide and Conquer" in relations with Russia.
Earlier, Ben Wallace expressed his readiness to discuss topical issues of international security with Sergei Shoigu in order to reduce general tension.
Wallace thanked Shoigu for his willingness to meet at this difficult time and expressed the hope that through joint efforts they will be able to “influence the climate, the economy and migration, which could reduce the overall tension.
