Svishchev: we are obliged to protect Valieva

State Duma deputy, President of the Russian Curling Federation Dmitry Svishchev commented on the development of the situation with the possible use of doping by the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. He stressed that it is necessary to wait for official clarifications to be given by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), or the International Skating Union (ISU), or the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

“We can only trust official sources such as the ISU, IOC and WADA on this matter. Everyone else is collecting rumors. And all the media use the information that was given in Inside the Games. It is clear that this is an information portal that is quite close to the IOC. But this is not an official source, he gave information many times, which was not confirmed later. And even now: at first they spoke about drugs, then they named another of our athletes, then they talked about Kamil Valieva - but all this is at the level of rumors.

Remember, it said: "doubtful result." What does it mean? We have a dubious result and a test for coronavirus may be. In order for a dubious one to become confirmed, certain procedures must go through, and until that time we have no right to accuse or remove anyone from the competition, ”said Svishchev.

The parliamentarian stressed that Russia should defend the interests of its athletes, especially when it comes to a 15-year-old figure skater. Svishchev drew attention to the fact that Valieva began Olympic training, and this is a good signal.

“We are obliged to protect our athletes, and even more so, a small, fragile girl who has everything ahead of her. She is now accused of quite serious violations. In our country, any athlete is obliged to comply with anti-doping legislation, and everyone is well aware of what threatens for the use of prohibited drugs and substances. And the coach, and parents, and she understands everything perfectly. We will fight for it, and the most important thing is that we must protect it. I know that she has started official training - let's hope for her successful performance," summed up Svishchev.

Information about a dubious doping test with one of the Russian figure skaters was published by the Inside the Games portal the day before, and later a number of media outlets reported that it was about Valieva. The IOC, ISU and WADA have not yet disclosed the details of what is happening, but at the moment it is known that Kamila is not suspended from the competition, and Russia retains the gold of the Games in the team tournament.

Earlier, Russian figure skater Elizaveta Tuktamysheva turned to Kamila Valieva.
