Poll: 85% of Russians are aware of the possibility to vote online

General Director of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) Valery Fedorov said that 51% of voters surveyed have a positive attitude towards the opportunity to take part in elections through remote electronic voting (DEG).

The VTsIOM study showed that 85% of voters are aware of the existence of this form of voting. As the expert said, 51% of voters are positive about the opportunity to vote via the Internet, 35% are critical, 19% are indifferent.

“In the September elections to the State Duma in 2021, the DEG was held in seven regions. In the sixth everything was great, in the seventh - it turned out to be Moscow - there was a lot of sharp criticism, discussions, bewilderment, and picks. We tried to measure, so to speak, the “aftertaste” of these discussions,” said Valery Fedorov.

He noted that all the disputes over the DEG in Moscow did not shake the attitude towards electronic voting, but rather strengthened it. For three days (measuring took place on September 23 and 27), the share of those who are positive about the possibility of voting remotely did not fall, but increased - from 42% to 51%.

Fedorov added that there are twice as many supporters of taking part in the elections on one of several days as opposed to such an opportunity.

“The three-day voting has more supporters than opponents (47% versus 22). Almost a third of the respondents are indifferent, the innovation has not caused serious objections in the society. Important: respondents noted that such a format does not affect voters' confidence in any way. The opposition’s statements that multi-day voting makes fraud possible did not find support in the minds of voters,” he stressed.

The VTsIOM survey was conducted on September 23 and 26, 2021.

Recall that in the elections to the State Duma in September 2021, the DEG was used in seven regions - in six constituent entities of the Russian Federation (Sevastopol, Kursk, Murmansk, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov and Yaroslavl regions), the DEG was held on the federal platform, and Moscow organized the DEG on its own experimental platform.
