Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that a draft law on indexation of pensions for military pensioners by 8.6% has been prepared. He announced this at a government meeting, TASS reports.

“This monthly surcharge will be received by military pensioners and persons equated to them, including those who served in the internal affairs bodies, the national guard, and firefighters,” he said.

The money will be credited from January 1, 2022.

Earlier, at an expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the need to increase the monetary allowance of military personnel.

He stressed that the monetary allowance should exceed the level of wages in the leading sectors of the economy.

Prior to this, the State Duma will consider the draft law “On the annual pre-New Year pension payment”, within which military pensions will be affected.

It is noted that the amount of New Year's payment should be equal to the size of the pension. The authors of the project explain its necessity by “large cash costs associated with buying gifts for relatives and friends, food for the festive table,” which pensioners face on the eve of the New Year.
